I agree mostly with what Gandor said, that said i believe the mods are not entirely without blame, (i'm not naming names over here), some of you, i assume you know who you are, ummm, you freak out a bit too easily, read too much into things, and have the whole i said it so it's true, now listen or mute attiture, which while on the one hand understandable of mods is not exactly a positive influence on the respect people have for you. I know you can't go discussing everything for hours with players you feel are disbehaving, but some kind of happy medium could be achieved imo. Currently some people are being muted for very small debatable things that should (in my opinion anyway) have been settled with a warning.
A couple of days ago i almost got muted for asking questions in limbo just because you guys didn't want a topic discussed. that sounds awfully like censorship to me and that just sends the wrong message to me, silencing discussion only signifies that something might be hidden that you don't want us to talk about or find out. If you do your job correctly there is nothing to hide no? Anyway a final point i wish to make : We are not in a courtroom here, chat is not some very important press conference. I think people having to constantly watch what they say is a detriment to chat as a whole.

Thank you for the constructive response Santa Claus, you made some valid points and still stayed respectful and on topic.

Well it's a good thing that limbo is its own private channel now and has no moderation.
And also, people shouldn't have to "watch" what they say in any case. Like really...do people 'have' to be racist/sexist/hateful? No. If you wanna do that shit do it out of main since nobody likes that. Personally I don't mind most things, but people take it way too far. I've seen it happen many times.
Mods should be tagged as mods - I agree, but it really shouldn't matter since all you gotta do is go /mods or look at the players in the top right list.
Mods should have an official warning system - This is a good idea. It seems a lot of people get muted before getting an actual warning, but then again people have to be told repeatedly not to do something and they still do it. The rules are at the top left, read them before doing anything stupid!
I'm definitely for making everyone happy chat-wise, but that's literally impossible. You have people who complain about stuff no matter what. You have a free-for-all chat, people get upset/pissed and take things too far! You have a chat with a lot of rules, people get pissed off because of the rules and break them!
P.S. The /ignore command can be used, but it really doesn't solve the problem

One of the option i would put that isn't up here could be, To Perm mute someone at least 3 mods (2 if there are not enough) should agree and post on forum why (if its not already how its done, because honestly i didn't really see the forum much) I actually kind of agree with Joey on this looking back at it. A perma mute is a very severe tool in the modding arsenal in a game where chatting is basically half the game. To take the right to chat away from someone permamently it would be nice if we could see that it was done justifiably and not because, for example, a mod had a bad day ( again not accusing anyone here ) and someone just happened to trigger their rage because of a comment that was, in hindsight, not actually that bad. Oh another thing i'd like said is that while yes, racism and sexism are against the rules etcetera etcetera, we are not operating in a binary environment in this case. This mostly applies to sexism since many things can be construed as sexist in A way. All i'm saying is that there is a big range between being hurr durr women should stay in the kitchen and saying your girlfriend is a bitch because of x (sue me i couldn't think of a better example but the point is still valid). I'm not suggesting any particular course of action regarding this but i'd just like it to be said.

Don't do anything that toes the line between allowed and disallowed, and you won't need to worry about mods not playing fair.
Sad that this kind of threads have to pop up in literally every online community. Get over yourself.

Silesia, that does apply to most online communities. However, here you can get muted because you posted a picture that ONLY offended X , whereas everyone else would consider it "normal","clean" etc.
I've seen people being banned for absolutely no reason. But you know,we players, can't do anything about it since this is not a democratic system. It's an online game where the owner does whatever he pleases.

I'm not sure how that is unique to this game, I've seen it in every similar online game I've played--Are people just confused because chat is actually moderated now? I'm sorry but old chat is dead. Long live chat!
I know it can be difficult to not accidentally post something 'offensive' but eventually you'll learn to use only the acceptable six words in one of the three acceptable orders. I'm being a smartass here I know, but it's really not that difficult. You can call it baby chat, sjw chat, dead chat, whatever you want, but Vysn has made it very clear that yes this is how it is going to be and it will not go back. Please use Limbo chat if you wish to vent but you can and will be muted repeatedly if you can't figure out what's acceptable or not.
I do miss the good 'ol days where I never had to mute folk other than spam bots and such! But alas such is life, and for those of you unable to cope then I suggest therapy. Perhaps online therapy, even! It's cheaper.
Oh, it's a video game chat btw so probably not worth a never-ending campaign of angst, just sayin'.
Aaaaand I know it's tough to believe, but the people who are perma-muted are muted forever, there is no chance of it being appealed. They had 3 or more chances and blew it. Whoops!

Hah, I love that "Mods should be tagged as mods" ended up in first. I suggested this directly to Vysn on several occasions and he thought it was a daft idea, even though this was at the time when mods came and went daily. I persisted and kept bringing it up and he actually got annoyed.
Symptomatic for my departure from this game tbh, hes never gonna read this...and if he does he wont action anything. Doesn't care.

I've moderated a chat website where moderators were tagged as such, and I can tell you that there are very good reasons to keep mods hidden. Reports were done through PMs instead of the report feature; moderators were harassed; moderators had lots of fanboys which made it difficult to remain part of the community; moderators were accused of misconduct by people who had never even been in touch with those moderators, etc etc etc. The only real advantage is that people are aware of which moderator does what, and they can report bad mods to the admins when needed. That doesn't weigh up against the cons though. If I were Vysn, I'd also decide against it.

For the record I have no idea where this 'perma muted' thing about me started but I was 'Muted Indefinitely', meaning muted for an indefinite period of time, if I was 'perma muted' I doubt I'd be unmuted at all.... So yea, I still hate you all.
